Car Inspection of a Mercedes Benz CLS 550

We were contacted by an out of province client who was searching for a CLS550 with a specific color combination (white on black). He couldn’t find it in his vicinity, but found a potential in Montreal, at Mercedes Laval. Therefore, We contacted the dealer and set up an appointment for a remote inspection. Very nice staff, and helpful salespeople.

When we arrived at the dealer, the car was waiting for us at the service bay. The vehicle was in mint condition, as you can see from the video. The only thing that was not detectable from the pictures and video, is the smell. The previous owner used to smoke cigars in the car. Not one or two, a lot of cigars, the interior has absorbed the smell. In response to the findings, the dealer promised to perform an ozone treatment. Here’s a link explaining briefly how Ozone treatment works.

What’s important to check for

The staff was very friendly and helpful, they came for a drive with us, and showed us the CarProof report. During our inspections, we always scan the thickness of the pain on all of the metallic panels to note down any anomaly in the paint thickness (inconsistency), because in a lot of the cases, specially with higher end vehicles, accidents or small damage are not always declared to insurance (hence will not show when acquiring a history/claims report). Therefore, it would be an important thing to keep in mind when purchasing a pre-owned car. This is not to blame a dealership or a sales person, they deal with a lot of cars each day, and dont have the time to comb through this much detail prior to the sale (if it’s an original manufacturer dealership, they normally have to conduct their internal inspection of the mechanics, etc. but generally speaking, will not go through the paint thickness and test drive)
