Manual transmissions, they are awesome. But don't always believe what's written on the shift knob, go for a test drive, and cycle through all the gears. Most 5 speed and 6 speed knobs are interchangeable (knobs can be swapped on the same shift lever)
Manual transmissions come (generally) in 6 speeds, 5 speeds, and some 3 and 4 speeds (old models).

Front CV joint boots (in the picture) are so easy to check yet they are often ignored. the vast majority of front wheel and all whee drive cars have this system (some exceptions like the Mercedes G class SUV and similar). Those boots hold grease inside to lubricate the contents while you drive, if the boots tear, the grease would escape leaving a dry Constant Velocity joint which is normally an expensive repair.
We normally check them by turning the steering wheel all the way to one side to expose the boots and visually inspect it using a flash light.
if you choose to check them yourself, please, Always, ensure safety first.
